Born in Paris in 2006, Jules Sauvegrain began playing the violin at the age of three under the guidance of his mother, Anne-Laure Sauvegrain, following the Suzuki method. He later continued his training with Dan Dery, violin professor in Geneva. In 2021, Jules spent a year at the Purcell School for Young Musicians in London, where he studied with Nathaniel Vallois. Since 2023, he has been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in the prestigious violin class of Julia Fischer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in Munich. He also studies chamber music with Raphaël Merlin, Veriko Tchumburidze, Dirk Mommertz, Reto Bieri, and Hyung-ki Joo.
Jules has taken part in numerous music academies and summer courses, particularly with Professor Dan Dery. He has also attended masterclasses with Marie Charvet, professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMD Lyon). In 2022, he participated in the Schloss Academy, where he attended masterclasses with Boris Kushnir. In 2024, he joined the Swiss International Music Academy (SIMA), studying violin with Andreas Janke and chamber music with cellist Troels Svane. In 2025, he also attended masterclasses with Marie-Annick Nicolas.
Jules made his debut as a soloist with orchestra in 2020, performing several concerto appearances. In 2023, he joined the Orchestre Français des Jeunes (French Youth Orchestra), performing in prestigious venues including the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Philharmonie de Paris. He was awarded Third Prize at the Swiss Youth Music Competition (SJMW) in 2022, followed by First Prize at the French national competition Prodiges Art in 2023. In 2024, he received Second Prize at the Grunewald International Music Competition in Berlin. Continuing this success, Jules won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Cambrai International Violin Competition, performing with the Orchestre des Hauts-de-France under the baton of Jean-Pierre Wiart. As part of the following year’s festival, he was invited to perform with the Quintet of the Paris Opera. More recently, Jules became a scholarship recipient of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now München e.V. Foundation and currently serves as Concertmaster of the ODEON Orchestra in Munich.
